Il Gabbiano di Capri- Yvonne Meyer-Lohr – Chance and serendipity
It all began to come together one cold day in February 2003. Early that morning I met Michael Martin in Munich to discuss his project for a book called "Deserts of the Earth". For me, it was a very rewarding meeting. He was a famous photographer I had admired for years, and I wanted to meet him personally to convince him that I could design this fascinating book for him. That was almost four years ago, and the book has long been in the bookshops. With my mind awhirl from the stimulating meeting and the positive thoughts stirred up by it, I was walking through the snowy, wintry streets of Munich that evening when I noticed out of the corner of my eye a black-and-white photo in the recesses of a shop window. It showed the silhouette of Capri, my favourite island. The next morning, I went back to the shop and asked about the photographer. Inside, there were other photographs by him on the walls. Immediately I knew I had to find this photographer – he had the photos for my book about Capri. I had somebody write his name down – unfortunately incorrectly, as it turned out. |
